[CoLoCo] need good wireless card with external antenna

Anyone know of a good card that works with ubuntu (without having to use the wrapper thing)? I want something that has a much better range than the internal card (like something for wardriving but that's not what I plan to do). A pcmcia card would be good but I'd like to be able to use an unattached antenna - maybe something that would clip on the laptop lid and I can rotate it to get the best signal. Does such a thing exist? I've looked through newegg, tigerdirect and best buy without luck.
