[CoLoCo] Firefox 3.0 - give it a try

Cool!

I have been wanting to install the new Firefox Beta version to help test but don't want to lose the current version that I have. I have many extensions that I use daily and would not like to lose them in the upgrade. Is it possible to have 2 Firefox versions loaded (version 2.0.0.11 and 3.0 Beta 2)?

Hey all,

I've been playing with firefox 3 (Gran Paradiso) for a bit now and
it's really slick. I think the version in the repos is a bit behind
but it's easy to install. It's alpha 8 and I think they are up to beta
2 now.

sudo apt-get install firefox-3.0

It adds a new menu item in apps-internet. It's a blue globe called
Granparadio web browser. It doesn't seem to copy anything from regular
firefox (bookmarks and such) nor does it interfere. I can run both at
the same time. Getting flash to work on a 64 bit system is a bit of a
pain. I have no idea what will happen if you run firefox 3 on 32 bit -
probably work just fine or maybe you will have to manually install
flash. For my 64 bit install I played around a bit so not sure which
steps were actually the ones that made it work. However, I ended up
removing flash and then reinstalling this way...

1. Follow the proper blue steps at
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=636397 to install flash.

2. open a terminal and run nspluginwrapper -i
/usr/lib/flashplugin-nonfree/libflashplayer.so

That assumes you had flash working in 64 bit before since your
original install would have included the plugin wrapper. If not, you
may need to follow the directions at
http://plugindoc.mozdev.org/linux-amd64.html

Make sure you restart firefox 3.

It's possible that if you already have flash working you can just try
step 2 above but I'm not sure as I had removed it and reinstalled
before trying.

Enjoy.
