Darrin (and interested others),

When programming, you would be VERY surprised at how many floating point
calculations a computer application carries out for "everyday software" that
seems like it wouldn't.  Many times, functions to combine strings or
manipulate or interpret data require floating point calculations at a very
"low level."  I know this sounds like a horrible explanation, but it's
probably because it's 1AM.  Go ahead and send another email straight to me
if you're curious for more from a computer science background.  : )
