I have received some excellent suggestions.  I am passing some of them on to my student with in a progressive order and will advise everyone to how it went.  Apologies for anyone confused by the multiple email groups.  I decided for expediance to utilize my friends at the wftl and the Chicago Ubuntu LOCO.  IMHO, two of the best mail lists on the web for humble linux users.  Thanks guys!
