We now have two presentations scheduled for this Saturday's Linuxfest:

1) *Erik Johnson - Journey To the Center of systemd*

2) *Jeff Jirsa - Installing Centos 6.3 From The Ground Up*

*Presentation #1 -*

*Journey To The Center Of systemd*

For those who are interested in the inner workings of Linux, this will be
an exciting presentation. Erik Johnson will get to the heart of systemd; an
up and coming replacement for the SystemV init system, which has been the
means of managing services, run states and daemons since the very beginning
of the Linux Kernel. He will show:

   1. How systemd differs from traditional init systems
   2. systemd's approach to SysV runlevels
   3. Unit files, the replacement for init scripts
   4. Using systemctl to manage and get information about services
   5. How systemctl can be used to control and initiate machine states
   (suspend, hibernate, reboot etc)
   6. How systemd can be used to handle power-related ACPI events
   7. How to interact with the journal (systemd's log)
   8. How you can try systemd on your very own Linux system

and much more ........

Erik Johnson profile:

*Introduction*

Linux/Solaris sysadmin. First started tinkering with Linux in college, and
I've run it pretty much exclusively for most of the last decade. Recently
started the Fox Valley Linux User Group.

*What Linux distro(s) do you use?*

For personal use: Started with Slackware 4 back in college. Used Slackware
up through version 10 or so. Moved to Fedora Core/Fedorabefore trying (and
loving) Arch Linux about 3 years ago. For work use:Kubuntu for a while,
mostly because they had discs lying around at work, but also because they
were still using KDE3. Then briefly Fedora, before switching to Arch. I run
Arch on all my machines now.

*How long have you been using Linux?*

Since 1999.

*Presentation #2:*

*Installing Centos 6.3 From The Ground Up*

For those who haven't installed a server version of Linux (or even for
those who have) and would like to go through it from the ground up, Jeff
Jirsa will demonstrate installing it from the raw DVD load to a computer
with a blank hard drive and discuss the various issues faced with
installing a Linux server load. Time permitting he will go through
installation of packages, PHP and mysql and more.

*Jeff Jirsa Profile:*

Jeff Jirsa is a programer that writes PHP applications for his day job. He
has programmed using C, C++, Korn shell, Perl, Rexx, and other scripting
languages. He has used everything from DOS to OS/2, to Windows, to AIX, to
Linux of various flavors.
