OpenSSH Tips and Tricks Super Session

Presentation by Erik Johnson

For any of you who have wondered about the technicalities necessary to
setup secure access connections to your Linux computer remotely over the
internet, either for file transfers, direct access or even remote desktop
with secure authentication, this is the session for you.  The presentation
is about all the cool things you can do with OpenSSH, a software suite
which provides secure communications between two networked computers. This
session will provide the information you need to operate on the command
line to configure secure remote access.

The presentation will cover the following:
1) Forwarding an SSH connection through a router

2) Basic security tips

3) Key-based authentication

4) SSH tunneling

5) Secure Remote Desktop

6) Using ~/.ssh/config to simplify connecting

7) Running graphical applications remotely using X11 forwarding

8) Using OpenSSH as a secure web proxy

9) Setting up chrooted SFTP for secure file sharing

Erik Johnson profile:

Linux/Solaris sysadmin. First started tinkering with Linux in college, and
I've run it pretty much exclusively for most of the last decade. Member of
a couple other LUGs but none that are anywhere close to where I live, so I
started one myself. :)

Been using Linux since 1999.  Started with Slackware 4 back in college.
Used Slackware up through version 10 or so. Switched to Fedora for a while,
then moved to Fedora Core/Fedora before trying (and loving) Arch Linux
about 3 years ago. For work use: Kubuntu for a while, mostly because they
had discs lying around at work, but also because they were still using
KDE3. Then briefly Fedora, before switching to Arch. I run Arch on all my
machines now.
