[Ubuntu Chicago] Ubuntu-us-chicago Digest, Vol 9, Issue 6

Just got Ubuntu running 2xTemrinalServer - I can connect via Remote
Desktop and run my apps. Have Sabayon profile manager also added to my
Ubuntu Desktop so I can lock down users. Mixing it up with WINE and I
have a pretty nice Open Source Terminal Server.

On the client end I used upx to embed the nxclient so that window
clients don't need to install anything. It's packaged as a single exe.
Just save onto desktop and run. It automatically connects to UBUNTU
server ip and connects to local user's printers. I was able to run
Openoffice, Firefox, etc - cool thing is if you setup the wine for the
users ahead of time they can even run Window apps, Sound is kinda messed
up so I just disabled it.

Anyone else have any experience with Terminal Servers and OpenSource?

For your online storage woes.
I'm sure you realize the necessity of having your data backed up. Your
hard drive could bust any day now and you'd be SOL. I say invest in an
external hard drive as well as backing up your most critical info to an
online location.

I need to get a skateboard and get back into skating after a 15 year
hiatus.
Getting old sucks.

Hi all,

Wanted to just drop a line and say I just signed up with the local
Chicago chapter. Looking forward to working together.

Please feel free to use me as a resource. I have a programming
background and have personally installed Ubuntu and other flavors of
Linux and FreeBSD for many clients over the years and as such I have
tailored different builds to the clients needs. Over the last 4 months,
I have been working on a couple builds that I offer clients and dubbed
them LAVA Linux. They are all based on UBUNTU code. Looking forward to
the next meeting and meeting everyone.

Thank you,
