As the article mentions, there is a fair amount of Linux on mobile's.  I
have seen it most in Asia.  Motorola is very big on it and has staked
their next generation OS on Linux based phone OS with Java. As to
Openness, I wouldn't count on too much anytime soon.  While the software
may be open source in terms of code availability, I would expect that
the finished devices to be locked up good and tight.
