I have heard some decent stuff about the Acers. Also I have seen a couple of 
Compaqs at Frys and what not that are rather cheap. If you are into refurbs, 
Tiger Direct sells some decent machines for cheap. Tiger Direct is in 
Naperville, off of rt. 59 behind the target. Also have Frys in Downers Grove. 
Best Buy sucks, as it seems they are pushing more into the "home 
entertainment" and way from computers, at least at my local one. Oh, Costco 
has laptops cheap as hell too. Whatever you go with, let me know, as I am in 
the market of doing something similar.
