Hey Gene - You can disable update notifications by going to System > Administration > Software Sources and then select the Updates tab. On that tab, if you deselect Check for Updates (you must manually check for updates) it will stop notifying you of any updates. For the forum posts, if you go to Quick Links > My Profile there should be a link to show all posts by you. Hopefully I answered your questions, if not feel free to meet someone on IRC.
