Hi David,
I want to echo what Joe said. There are many ways to participate online.
I recommend trying an Ubuntu Hour ( https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Hour ) if
there is no group near you. This came up several times during UDS in
Dallas, TX last month. Regional meetings are also encouraged. (
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LoCoTeamHowto#Regional Meetings ) Maybe some
one time events can help get things started in your area. I would
like to attend. I also just updated the list of Groups in the Central
Valley. There aren't many yet, which is a great opportunity for you
to represent the Ubuntu community in your area.
