Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:

Debian has fixed FTBFS with gcc 4.4 hence can be synced again

  * Fixed reading of settings from /etc/default/jabberd. (Closes: #552281).

    to allow setting of basic options without editing jabber.xml.
