Thanks latinhawwk. 
After looking a little bit deeper in it, I (hopefully) found the deeper problem. It is not my script, but upstart itself:

That's where I have to push the brakes, and stop trying to get it in
karmic, as long this bug is not done. :(

I will put a new version on my ppa, but until this bug in upstart is done, you will have trouble on anything that will stop aiccu. The only solution I have found is a reboot before trying to start aiccu again!
