Reponse from Debian:
"Does it cause a problem in use? I disabled it because powerpc builds
correctly without it. As far as I've been able to see (but
I'm new maintaining this package) this setting is only really used by
the bundled alloca.c, which is not really used by us, anyways, since
gcc has a perfectly usable built-in alloca. Thus, the setting ends up
being nothing but a compile time check with no actual effect in the
resulting library.

OTOH, if it does cause a problem in powerpc, I'll gladly add it back. I
need to set it for mips (and maybe mipsel) anyways. I'd like to
undesrstand what the problem is, though, and talk to upstream about it."

So I would say we can drop the change we made in Ubuntu on stack
direction on PPC, and sync librep.

What do you think?
