Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:

Please sync the latest version from debian as they have fixed ftbfs bugs 
which was affecting ubuntu. (and is the only ubuntu change so the 
package can be synced).

Changelog since current karmic version 3.0.2-1ubuntu1:

gecode (3.1.0-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * New upstream release (soname 17) (Closes: #526675)
  * Run "make check" instead of test/test.
  * Build depend on libboost-dev, not libboost1.37-dev. (Closes: #534061)
  * Standards-Version bumped to 3.8.2 (no changes necessary).
  * Explicitly add -lgecodedriver to the LDFLAGS in the provided Makefile
    for examples in libgecode-doc.
