Thanks for all the feedback.
Note that my most recent debdiff (~andersk5 in my PPA) also fixes bug 302226 and is posted there.

The next steps are to sync open-vm-tools 2008.11.18-130226-1lenny1 into
Jaunty, and upload my Intrepid package as an SRU.
