That's correct that the fix isn't needed anymore, but have you understood why it was needed in the past?
The build failed in the past because the package contained an empty po/libgupnp.pot file which pkgstriptranslations doesn't like. pkgstriptranslations is Ubuntu-specific so a package may build in Debian on all arches and still fail to build in Ubuntu.

The real reason why it isn't needed anymore is that the new upstream
version doesn't contain po/libgupnp.pot anymore which caused the FTBFS.

Sync request ACKed nonetheless.
