You have been subscribed to a public bug by Nathan Handler (nhandler):
in hardy beta, there is no option or menu entry to run wireshark as root, this used to be available in gutsy,
this function is quite handy.
WORKAROUND/FIX:
These lines in wireshark-root.desktop simply need to be changed from:
TryExec=su-to-root
Exec=su-to-root -X -c /usr/bin/wireshark
back to:
TryExec=gksu
Exec=gksu -u root /usr/bin/wireshark
** Affects: wireshark (Ubuntu)
Importance: Undecided
Status: Confirmed
** Tags: bitesize desktop-file patch regression
