Santa gave me a night-vision device for Christmas. It's a great piece of kit but the image will be much better if viewed using an external monitor rather than through the relatively low resolution viewfinder. My netbook (running Xubuntu 14.04) would be ideal due to its portability. It has 2 USB ports. I need a way of taking the AV output of the NV device and feeding it into the netbook through USB, displaying the image as if sourced from a webcam (i.e using Cheese or similar).

Does anybody have anybody have any tips? For example, can AV output be fed directly into USB or does it require some kind of intermediate conversion device?

Thanks
