I have a netgear router, on ASDL broadband and had exactly this problem. I had it positioned flat on a bookshelf, under my DECT phone base station. When uploading large numbers of files via ftp, or downloading large files (e.g. iso files) it would drop connections to my other computers.<br>

Standing it vertically cured this problem, as it was able to keep cooler. It does say in the manual not to put things on top of the router, but who reads the manual (until something doesn't work)<br><font color="#888888">

<br clear="all">My router stands vertically with a 4inch gap all around it in a room with no central heating on (it's around 16c in the room) so don't think it's not an over heating problem.<br><br>It sounds more like a problem with the drivers of the wireless, Can't remember where I read it but there's something about the number of ports the router can open and the speed the connections are recycled causes the drivers to effectively "crash" if it happens too quickly.<br>
