I've done a bit of looking around myself and found the <a href="http://www.manlug.org/">Manchester Linux Users Group</a>. It seems they were holding meetings every month through 2008 have had none since last January due to construction works at the Kilburn building. They had an installfest planned for October but no mention as to whether or not that took place. Maybe someone on this list knows of this group or has been involved with them? Seems they have contacts at the university and experience with Linux meetings, and there will probably be a number of them that would be interested in an Ubuntu Jam.<br>

I agree that a bar/pub wouldn't be an ideal place for this. I did think the universitys would be ideal, I know the computing block in Manchester Met uni is fairly decent. There's plenty of power, internet, and the refectory just downstairs, which sells food & drinks. There's also a lot of computers, which means that people who don't want to bring / don't own a laptop can particiapte too. The only downside is that the Internet requires you to log in, but I can always talk to the relevant people at the university and see if there's a way round this for a day. There's also a projector in every room, which would be useful for demonstrations. <br>

</div>I shall be endeavouring to provide my assistance at every corner! one<br>
thing we need sorted is a venue, good wifi is a must, not especially<br>
fast, but stable. I'm not sure a bar/pub is the best place for something<br>
like this either, its really about getting constructive contributions<br>
done which would be hard to focus on in a noisy bar.<br>

Just to note the date - the next global jam is listed for the 26th -28th<br>
of march, which is the last weekend in march. Just in time to get those<br>
last minute bugs for lucid :)<br>

If anyone interested would like to bring up any specific skill-sets they<br>
might have that would be great, if your a great packager for example it<br>
would be wonderful to spend some time teaching others about the<br>
mysteries and conundrums of debian packaging ;)<br>
