Hi Guyan,

My suggestions is that if you are short of money but need a computer for basic stuff, like internet browsing and word processing, you can find bargains on the Ebay and also at the Computer Fair in central London (near totternham court road). Then you can install Ubuntu/Kubuntu/Xubuntu as your main OS or as dual boot. Ubuntu usually runs faster than Win Xp if your computer doesn't have high specs.
If you are planning to get a laptop, check this site for compatibility.
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LaptopTestingTeam?highlight=%28CategoryLaptop%29#head-ed3bfabb533fe8032b87405aab057e3f5835f724

I haven't finished testing my laptop in every aspected suggest by the LaptopTestingTeam, but i can garantee that the Toshiba Equium A100-147 works just fine with Ubuntu 6.10. I haven't installed it in my other laptop, a IBM Thinkpad T40, but the live CD runs smoothly as well.

Hi there !

I just moved to the UK from Australia and I need a computer (laptop prefebly with wireless internet) I been reading bits and pieces about Ubuntu linux and I was wondering if there was some kind of laptop specs which where ideal for using Ubuntu with. For example I saw some videos with the Ubuntu screen spinning around like a cube and such..What kind of graphics card or gaphics memory is needed to support that ?

Are there particular laptop brands or components which work well with Linux ? Is there a store which specialises in Linux hardware ? I live in London at the moment is there any good hardware stores I should visit for the best deal

Thanks a bunch
Guyan
