Many thanks Jim.  I had forgotten I had raised that bug.  I must have done
other things also but just cannot find them!
However, I just need to test this out which matches my recollection of
doing things from the command line:-

gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.interface cursor-size 72

72 is the max I can get I think - and 24 is the default
