Sounds like you downloaded the netinstall iso which is indeed 50MB?

You maybe went via this path:-

ubuntu.com/download -> "Alternative downloads and torrents ›"
ubuntu.com/download/alternative-downloads -> "Download the network
installer for 14.04 LTS"
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/netboot/14.04/ -> "amd64 - For 64-bit
Intel/AMD (x86_64)"
http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/trusty-updates/main/installer-amd64/current/images/netboot/

Where there is http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/trusty-updates/main/installer-amd64/current/images/netboot/mini.iso
which is 50MB.

Farther down the http://www.ubuntu.com/download/alternative-downloads
page is a torrent link for 14.04.

Alternatively go to http://releases.ubuntu.com/14.04/

Cheers,
Al.
