[ubuntu-uk] Searching on the Dash

Ubuntu 12.04
Am I correct in thinking that the Search function on the Dash should 
search all of the documents/applications on the machine, or does it only 
search the Recently Used lists?
Because if it's the former, then it doesn't. Is there some sort of 
indexing parameter that needs to be set?
