hi,
i do not think this was mentioned here and I hope I'm not being a spam. 

It is an alternative to sites like flickr and you tube but not centralized. What made me want to donate them apart from being something i want to use myself is that it is backed by fsf and that the development of crowdfunding interface is all open so it will be improved for future projects.
