Ubuntu 12.04 will ship with Compiz in April. That will be supported for 
5 years on the desktop. Compiz is a core component of Unity, in fact 
Unity is implemented as a Compiz plugin.

Also note Canonical employs Sam Spilsbury who works on Compiz.
