It depends on how you intend to replace it.

Generally, it's fine to just not configure (or deconfigure) it and use
something else. Many people have done this for years with Evolution, to
use some other mail client, and Empathy for a bit less to use Pidgin
instead.

You would lose the neater integration into the system that you'd get
with Gwibber, but you'd never normally get that with whichever
alternative you go for anyway - the alternative wont be hindered by
Gwibber's presence.


As for replacing Gwibber in the sense of removing the program and
putting something else in its place on-disk and in the notifiers and
the like, that's generally much less likely to work.


Have you filed/subscribed to relevant bugs for Gwibber?
