Been following this thread with the greatest of puzzlement. I have
Virgin with a cable-modem with a cable router attached, and a wi-fi
transmitter one one port of that. Strange config, I know, but I have my
reasons ... Never experienced anything like that though. First thing
I'd try would be to drop an ethernet cable into the laptop and see if
that makes a difference.
My bet would be on the router more than anything else.
If you eventually decide the problem might be the modem, you have to
test with nothing but one computer connected directly to the modem,
after turning off the power to the modem for at least ten seconds and
re-starting. If the problem shows with that configuration, you phone
Virgin and they do a remote test and send an engineer. They are VERY
good like that.
