I have WDS working between Netgear and Tenda routers here, without
having to use custom firmware. Buying hardware from the same
manufacturer might improve the chances of avoiding compatibility
problems, but is no guarantee that they can be linked with WDS. I have
another Netgear router here which will not do WDS at all. Look for WDS
support in the router specs if buying new hardware to do this.
