[ubuntu-uk] Lenovo N500 will not load Ubuntu

Hi,
My N500 won't load Ubuntu either from resident OS or from Live CD. It 
gets as far as the small monochrome Ubuntu symbol then the screen goes 
blank. I've tried loading an earlier version from GRUB and the same 
thing happens. The Recovery Mode in GRUB says /dev/uuid=whatever long 
number in hex "does not exist". I'm running the lengthy memory test from 
GRUB at the moment and so far that appears to be OK. I am especially 
concerned I can't load Ubuntu from the Live CD. What could be wrong?
