My experience with Karmic after the massive update was pretty dire.  I 
have it in Virtual Box. Fresh install of Karmic 6 was OK, but after the 
update (during which some package failed to download) and restart, 
the restart failed until fsck was run.  The problem being something like 
I have seen reported with something future dated.  After that if boots 
and runs OK but always fails to shut down - having captured the 
mouse pointer - so I have to go into a console and shut down.  So I will 
be very wary of upgrading to Karmic unless the Beta behaves itself.
