The MTU change is non-persistent; when the connection is remade the
default setting is used (in most cases 1500). You can even try it with
your wireless if you want - just replace ppp0 with wlan0 (or similar).
As soon as you reconnect to the wireless network the setting goes back
to normal; you can check this with $ ifconfig.
