I'm probably biased as I used to work at Heart Internet but it's a
great company and the support staff know what they are doing if you
ever have a problem. The packages are pretty good value for a UK web
host and I didn't have any issues with them after I left the company
(still used them for hosting a year after). I moved to Media Temple
purely due to cost as I was paying £34 a month for the reseller which
I'm now only paying £12 a month for. But media temple has been up and
down since I joined and I do regret leaving Heart for them.

Have a look at the Free web hosting that heart offer. It gives you a
small amount of webspace with a small amount of bandwidth allowance,
but also gives email boxes.
http://www.heartinternet.co.uk/free-web-hosting.html is the place to
go. It's normally hidden away on the website. If you do sign up for
this, you will be asked if you want to buy hosting during signup but
once you have signed up then you won't be bothered by the staff to
upgrade.
