[ubuntu-uk] Ubuntu 9.10 - Power Management

I have a relatively old desktop machine on which I have run many
versions of Ubuntu. Having just upgraded from Ubuntu 9.04 to Ubuntu
9.10, most things appear to be working very well and faster than before.
However, the Power Management setting to turn the screen off after a set
time period is not working. Could someone suggest how this might be
investigated and put right, please.
