What sound card are you using?

What is the problem? Incorrect response or not working at all. For this
and the previous problem can you paste the output of 'lspci' so we can
see what hardware you have.

It would be nice if you can find out what the name of the other utility
was that you tried. That way we can figure out why one is saying
contrary things to the other.
