Chances are you have the virtualbox debian repository enabled,
(http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Linux_Downloads) but have synaptic set
up to always prefer official repository versions over the latest version
available, thus even though 2.1 is available to you, it will keep
offering to install the earlier version.
