I've been using 0.8.2-2, the stable version.  But I see the German 
article installs linuxwacom-0.8.3-4, which, though unstable, is later 
than 'the first version to support Jaunty'.  So I'm clearly using the 
wrong wacom.ko

This is indeed helpful.  I'll have a go at compiling the new driver 
later and let you know how I get on.
