I have the 'never' on my netbook too and LAN works fine so that
appears just to be a red herring. Like the others say if you can try
it on someone else's router as it sounds like your may be the
problem...or (less likely) it could be the cable.
For the auto-eth section of your manual settings you can click on the
edit button and ensure that automatically connect is on and dhcp
also....but like I said I think thats a red herring.
