I'm not sure as to why it happens, but according to
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-app-install/+bug/311455 it
should be solved in the next release of Adobe Air. Also it seems you only
need Air and not iPlayer installed to experience the bug.
