Quite likely. You could try installing gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad,
gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad-multiverse,  gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly,
gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly-multiverse instead of w32codecs and see if
that does it. I never know which one of those has the "right" codecs
so just install them all.

I note though that my new ibex machine already has them all which i
suspect is a by product of installing the ubuntu-restricted-extras
package.
