This fixed the problem. I had to disable the totem plugin by deleting
/usr/lib/xulrunner-addons/plugins/libtotem-complex* as both the
RealPlayer plugin and the totem one want to handle real audio, and the
totem one wins for some reason.

There is a bug (#238695) on launchpad that reports this issue.
