[ubuntu-uk] problem with synaptic- keeps closing down!!!

hi,

im having some problems with my SPM. im not sure exactly how its happened.

This is the error message im getting:

"An unresolvable problem occurred while initialising the package
information.

Please report this bug against the 'update-manager' package and include the
following error message:

'E:Malformed line 40 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list (dist parse),
E:The list of sources could not be read.'! "

When i close this it closes synaptic down as well.

What to do?
