Roughly..

At home install ssh on ubuntu, "sudo nano /etc/sshd_config" to run it on
a port other than 22 (like 443), and restart it by running
"sudo /etc/init.d/sshd restart"
Make sure all users on that machine have very secure passwords
Configure your home router to forward port 443 to the internal IP
address of the box running SSH
Register a dynamic hostname (such as stonecold.dyndns.org) with a
provider like dyndns.org, configure your router or server to login with
dyndns.org regularly.
Download putty, put it on a stick and take it to work.
SSH to stonecold.dyndns.org (or whatever you registered).

Job done.

You might need to do a little reading for yourself along the way, but
that's it in a nutshell. It's your machine, and you are opening up the
system to external access, which is _your_ responsibility to secure.

Cheers,
Al.
