[ubuntu-uk] dvd rom-gutsy doesnt see!!!

Do you have a bootable CD/DVD to hand? If so, booting from that will
tell you if the drive still works at least.

If it works, then can you put a previously working CD/DVD into the
drive and paste the output of dmesg and /var/log/syslog into a
pastebin and provide the list with a link?
