There are problems with gutsy and usb mounting for SOME usb
drives/sticks . Two tricks that have been successful for me are:
1) Give up on hal/etc and add a line to fstab
or try:
2) sudo modprobe -r ehci_hcd
and plug it out and in again.
If this works you could blacklist this module
