Why sudo su - I thought that sudo by itself was root. I did what I
thought was right and got this:-

norman at gruber:~$ sudo rmmod snd-hda-intel
Password:
ERROR: Module snd_hda_intel is in use
norman at gruber:~$ sudo modprobe snd-hda-intel probe_mask=8 model=auto
norman at gruber:~$

However, there was still no audio.
