Firestarter isn't a firewall, iptables is the firewall. As I understand
it Firestarter and their ilk just generate the necessary scripts to
issue the iptables commands.

I don't have a firewall on any of my desktops. I have a firewall (Debian
box with two network cards) at the entry point to my LAN, but I dont see
the need for one on every computer. 

Does that make me foolish?
