Another good way of troubleshooting problems with boot times is to
install the 'bootchart' package using Synaptic (System -> Administration
-> Synaptic Package Manager).

When the system boots, bootchart will save a timeline of the boot
process in /var/log/bootchart, showing which programs are taking the
most time at boot.

Thanks,

Phil
