I had the same problem in Fedora Core 6. The trick was to manually 
remove the MPlayer Mozilla plugin file (mplayerplug-in-rm.so, IIRC). 
RealPlayer was then able to handle embedded video on the BBC site. The 
only problem was that mplayerplug-in-rm.so had to be removed each time 
MPlayer was updated!
